Sports Briefs by Paul Waurberton
CROQUET: Parson's Green Club have pinned their hopes on a 19-year-old student and a 98-year-old QC for this year's shot at the Mary Rose Trophy. The garden game's equivalent of the FA Cup sees Green attempting to put Norwich through hoops in the first round of the tournament on Saturday at club headquarters in Broomhouse Lane, Fulham.

Freddie Reynolds, 98, and Eugene Chang, 19, are the youngest and oldest members to ever represent Green. They're joined by Imperial College student Gabrielle Higgins as well as captain Russell Bretherton for the mixture of singles and doubles matches.

At the same time 62 other clubs around the country begin the first of five rounds in a bid to meet in the final on October 1 at Surbiton.

[Note: It has been suggested that due to a type-setting error the first digit of Mr Reynolds' age has been inverted and should read "68" not "98". The Hammersmith & Fulham Chronicle would like to apologise for any offence caused.]
